Biography
Emily received her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Columbia
University. Her passion for working with families and children
began in college where she studied child development and worked
as a teaching assistant for toddlers. Understanding the impact a
divorce can have on children and wanting to ensure that
children’s needs are taken into consideration when determining
custody and visitation issues, Emily trained to be a Guardian Ad
Litem.
During college, Emily volunteered at a Domestic Violence Center
answering hot line phone calls and helping clients obtain
protective orders. Emily continued to volunteer with victims of
domestic violence in law school at Emory University working with
Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation in their Domestic Violence
Project. She conducted intake interviews with clients to
determine whether they met the statutory requirements to obtain
a Protective Order and provided pro-bono representation to many
clients.
While a student at Emory Law School, Emily competed on both Mock
Trial and Moot Court teams helping to bring both teams to
success. In particular, her Mock Trial team ranked second
nationwide in the American Bar Association’s Labor and
Employment Law Mock Trial Competition in 2010. Due to her
involvement with litigation and oral advocacy, Emily was asked
to coordinate Emory Law School’s Trial Techniques Program 2011.
As a registered neutral civil and domestic mediator, has
mediated over 200 cases and helped train new mediators through
Georgia State Law School and John Marshall Law School, Emily is
sensitive to the emotional impact of a divorce case and utilizes
negotiation and settlement techniques to help settle a case.
Recognizing that some cases simply cannot be negotiated or
settled, however, Emily is always ready and ever willing to
advocate zealously on behalf of her clients and will fight for
her client’s right in trial when necessary.
