Guardianship Lawyers
Family Attorneys - Legal Guardianships in
Atlanta & Georgia
Meriwether &
Tharp lawyers
will guide you through the process of legal guardianship to insure
that the needs of loved ones are pursued to an appropriate
conclusion.
When a child lives with a legal guardian, the
guardian is responsible for health care, education and activities
such as little league, dance lessons, and musical lessons to name a
few. While the parents are still financially responsible for
child support, if they are unable to provide for the child, the
guardian may support the child or can apply for financial assistance
through welfare or other agencies. The child's biological
parents may be granted visitation if appropriate.
Not limited to relatives, guardianships may be
granted to friends or people who know the child. A
guardianship lasts until the child is 18 years old or until the
court ends the guardianship by assigning the child a different
guardian, or by giving the child back to the parents.
